The Q-Fiver Volume 40 Number 10 for October 1998 President's message Circumstances kept the President from completing and sending this month's Message in time for it to be included in the print Q-Fiver. It is hoped that the intended version of this column _may_ show up on the club web site. Sorry about that .... meanwhile, "The DXpedition was great, we set a new record for QSOs. Stories and pictures at the November meeting. "Foxhunts have been numerous and fun but hectic, and thereby lie several tales. "Don't miss the October 6 'ARRL Night' program. Let's have a good turnout for our guest speakers. "See you at the meeting!" 73, Dick WB4SUV by phone Next meeting The program for the OH-KY-IN meeting on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 1998 is "ARRL Night" and will feature Great Lakes Division Director Dave Coons WT8W. Dave will update us on League activity and services. Expected in support are new Ohio Section Manager Joe Phillips K8QOE and SW Ohio Assistant Section Manager John Haungs W8STX. We'd like a good turn-out for these honored guests. And if you have a query about the ARRL, one of these three is sure to have the answer! The meeting will be held as usual at 7:30 PM at the Western Hills Church of Christ, 5064 Sidney Road, one block from Glenway Avenue. From town, pass Ferguson Road and turn left on to Sidney between the BP station and Sebastian's restaurant, just before the Frisch's, then turn right at the light into the church drive which leads down to the parking lot. The entrance is at the back of the church building; plenty of parking is available. 73, Eric N8YCL September foxhunt: Tally wings September's foxhunt was held on Sunday the 13th so that the DXers could participate -- four teams were present. The fox was located in Stanberry Park, just east of Lunken Airport. Two transmitters were used -- a mobile rig into a 4 element beam sitting on the ground was fox #1, and fox #2 was a credit card transmitter stuck in a hole in a tree, mostly covered by birds' nest material. A good time was had by all (I think) especially me! Here are the results: 1. KC8FQY 92 min 20.5 miles 2. WA6EZV 171 min 33.6 miles 3. WB4SUV & 172 min 30.8 miles Looking forward to seeing Janie everyone in October! 4. N8FWA & 180 min 25.0 miles N9MBM 73, Brian KE4HOR Queen City Chorus of Sweet Adelines Intl presents ROAD TRIPPING! The recently formed Registry of Senior Wireless Operators wishes to announce the issue of a certificate for wireless operators who have been on the air for more than 25 years. This handsome certificate is suitable for framing and will include your name, present call letters, and the date of issue. Each certificate is individually numbered and is your identification within the registry, which will be available at the Registry web site. The purpose of the Registry is to recognize wireless operators who have been licensed to operate transmitters with a power in excess of 100 watts for over 25 years. This includes all forms of wireless operators, whether the original license was military, commercial, or amateur. Special "Flying Pigs" meeting All amateur radio operators interested in participating in the 1st Annual Cincinnati "Flying Pigs" Marathon on Sunday, May 9, 1999 are invited and encouraged to attend the October meeting of the Queen City Emergency Net. The race director and the amateur radio "guy in charge" of the Columbus Marathon (John Chapman WB8INY) will be attending. They will talk about the how's, why's, and what's of the Marathon. These two gentlemen have worked on the Columbus Marathon (our sister event if you will) for years, and have insights that should make this event a little easier to step into. The meeting will be Friday, October 16, at 8 PM. QCEN meets in the auditorium of the Red Cross Chapter at 720 Sycamore St. downtown. Talk-in is usually 147.24+ (PL 123 Hz) but I can listen/talk on any frequency that I know people will be on. Seeing as how there are probably 100+ assignments for this event, this is viewed as a cooperative venture between Oh-Ky-In and QCEN. Ed KF4UTO has volunteered to liaise between the clubs. By the way, you can get more information on the Cincinnati Marathon at: http://www.cincymarathon.org or from me at 961-5237. 73, Steve N8TFD QCEN Communications Mgr Oh-Ky-In jacket season open again Want or need a lined light blue Oh-Ky-In jacket?
