OSPOTA

OSPOTA is a contest held on the Saturday immediately following Labor Day with the following three goals:

  • To promote public awareness of amateur radio and Ohio’s beautiful state parks system
  • To contribute to the recognition that Ohio has a very diverse and wonderful ecology
  • To promote camaraderie within the ranks of Ohio’s Amateur Radio Operators

For the 16th Annual OSPOTA being held Saturday, September 9th 2023, OH-KY-IN ARS will be participating from LMI – Little Miami State Park. This park is unique in the Ohio State Parks system as it is a linear park, stretching over 50 miles along the banks of the Little Miami River on the former right-of-way for the Little Miami Railroad/Pennsylvania Railroad/Conrail Railroad. We will be operating in Morrow Ohio, near the Morrow Station at 240 Main St, Morrow, OH 45152. There are two shelters there, one right next to the station and another about 500′ up the trail on Center Street. These shelters are on the sidings and freight yard for the former railroad.

There will be two stations setup one, one for the lower bands and one for the upper bands. We will operate as MML – Multi-Op Multi-Transmitter Low Power (.1 to 100 watts) located at one Ohio State Park. The rules only permit SSB operations, so no digital or CW for this contest. The contest runs from 10:00 AM ET to 6:00 PM ET; we will start setting up around 12:00 PM ET. More information can be found on their website: https://ospota.org/.

Since the Little Miami State Park is a POTA – Parks on the Air entity, K-1972 – Little Miami State Park, the logs will be submitted to POTA as well. So if you are a POTA enthusiast, the contacts you make will count as credit for your POTA activator logs and awards.

We hope you can join us for this fun contest!
